Project 1

The goal of project 1 is to give you some experience with scoping and attempting PHP projects so you can develop skills to do so for the rest of your life. As long as you are attempting something that is not redundant to your expertise nor tedious to the point of mindless implementation, you are on the right track with the intent of the project. In past years, students have taken any of the four projects introduced in week one and extended them as they saw something of value to add to the site functionality. That's a good back-up plan for those of you who cannot come up with a project on an existing website you are working on or considering for future work.

I can think up many potential projects for those who wish to leave the thinking up to me. Any hints as to the kind of work you'd like to consider is helpful when I help you decide on a project 1. Simple examples of past student work includes:

Note that some students focused on computational projects such as a tidal chart lookup feature (with a form for comparison of actual with projected), but I mention that only for those of you who would prefer to use PHP for dynamic computation (something PHP is very good at).

The bottom line is that the two projects in this class are for your learning purposes. We all come to this class with different skills and experiences so I won't attempt to suggest we all do the same project. We'll discuss the opportunities on April 9th in class.
